C.H. Fraser Camp offers a small collection of restored waterfront lodges on the shores of Square Lake. Each lodge is designed for comfort after long days on the water or in the woods, with everything you need to settle in and make the most of your stay. Fish legendary waters for salmon and trout, explore miles of surrounding forest, or unwind by the lake as the sun drops behind the trees. This is a place to slow down, breathe deep, and experience the Maine North Woods the way it’s meant to be.
It is a 10 mile drive through the forest to reach the camp and there are no other residences within that 10 mile drive. The road is very drivable and safe but be aware you likely want to take all the gear and food you need for your stay in with you upon arrival. Once arriving at CH Fraser Camp you are totally secluded. There are no neighbors and as you look out over the 8,000 acre lake you can’t see other camps on other shores. On the land you are surrounded by miles of uninhabited forest for exploration. The lake does not generally have many fishermen on it because to reach it they have to cross thoroughfares coming from neighboring lakes in the chain. CH Fraser Camp offers a unique Maine experience.
Presque Isle Airport is the closest airport to the camp. Currently Jet Blue has that route and only offers one flight to Boston in the morning and one flight from Boston in the evening. If you fly into Presque Isle at night I recommend booking a hotel and grocery shopping in the morning before driving to the camp. As northern Maine grocery stores may not offer all you are accustomed to you may want to bring any specialty items you enjoy. The drive from Presque Isle to the camp is approximately 2 hours.
James and Dawn Birch spent the last several decades running and building Flora Bella Farms in Three Rivers, CA. After successfully passing the farm onto the next generation we were free to embark full time on our new adventure and live at our Fort Kent, Maine farm full time. While exploring the area we stumbled upon the original C H Fraser Inlet Camp site and it was for sale. Recognizing the great potential for fulfilling our own fishing dreams we acquired the property and decided to renovate the property to accommodate guests.
Square Lake is part of a 5 lake fish lake chain in northern Maine and is known as the largest and most pristine of the chain. It covers almost 8100 acres and reaches depths of 122 feet supporting populations of landlocked salmon, lake trout (togue), brook trout, rainbow smelt and many more fishes.
H. Fraser Camp is one of a very few private lots on Square Lake as the many thousands of acres of woods surrounding the lake are owned and maintained by a logging Company. The camp sits on the thoroughfare that enters Square Lake from Cross Lake and this location is known throughout the northeast as a spectacular fishing location. As far as I can tell the camp has not been available to lodgers for many decades and we are proud to open up the beautiful lodges and invite guests to visit and enjoy the magic that is Maine and very possibly have the fishing or hunting trip of a lifetime.
